HOW IT ALL STARTED

November 15, 1995 was a great day for me. It was the day I got hooked up to and on the "Net". And then quite by accident I found WBS chat and from there the 50+ Chat Room. Things really haven't ever been quite the same since then. It simply boggled my mind that you could sit in front of your computer and chat with people not only from all over the country but from all over the world. In less than 60 days I had managed to chat with over 300 individuals from the Canada, Australia, England, Holland, Israel, Italy, Philippines, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and of course the USA.

A few of us started talking about forming a group of 50+ Friends. The more we talked it over the more possible it seemed. On January 8, 1996, I sent my first newsletter out to everyone who had either expressed an interest in the group or who I felt might be interested in it. The response was truly amazing. Our efforts really took off when Bill Dawes offered to provide us with our first Home Page. I will always be indebted to him for that as should each of us. Then came the point in time when Carole in the Hills and her group of hard working volunteers stepped forward and developed our current Home Page. And what a grand job they have all done. I am very proud to have played some small part in getting 50+ Friends off the ground but I also realize that it would not have been possible without each and everyone of you.

Here's hoping you enjoy the newsletters. They should give you a bit of insight on how it all came to be. Thanks again to each and everyone of you.
